Louisiana will at last welcome Bonaparte when Treasures of NAPOLEON comes to the Louisiana State Museum's OLD U.S. MINT in the New Orleans French Quarter from April 6th to August 3rd, 2008. The spectacular traveling exhibition Treasures of NAPOLEON, tells the fascinating story of Napoléon and showcases the world-class art and design of his time. It has already been seen by 125,000 visitors and universally praised. Created from the extraordinary collection of 1st Empire authority and author, Pierre-Jean Chalençon, the exhibit showcases rare, personal belongings of Napoléon I, as well as some of the most famous depictions of him by the greatest artists of the time. While elements of the exhibition have been loaned for major exhibitions around the world, this is the first time these irreplaceable artifacts are being seen in North America. Treasures of NAPOLEON offers visitors an opportunity to see beyond the “legend” of Napoléon Bonaparte to gain an understanding of this complex figure as a man. User-friendly interpretive text and more than 250 objects, framed paintings, prints and documents, as well as furniture from the Imperial palaces, shine a light on the extraordinary life of one of history's pivotal figures.

Standing With Papa Legba: The Intersection of Contemporary Haitian Art represents a critical point in Haitian Art history during which artists explore realms grounded in Haiti’s rich African influence and deal with contemporary issues and Haiti’s socio-political history as well. In both Haitian Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo, Papa Legba is the deity that presides over the crossroads and intersections of life. It is here at the crossroads that we find contemporary Haitian artists confronted with the past and future of Haitian Art. Centered in four major themes – spirituality, history and politics, contemporary life, and “wonder-realism,” this exhibition is told from a first-person narrative. Standing With Papa Legba: The Intersection of Contemporary Haitian Art is a celebration of the visual arts traditions of Haiti and an attempt to de-mystify this culture and situate Haitian art in a contemporary context. Featuring the work of Ulrick Jean-Pierre, Vidho Lorville, Georges Valris, Eric P. Julien and the late Pierro Barra, the exhibition includes installation work, mixed media, paintings, photographs, traditional iron work and ornately decorated sequin Vodu flags.

This summer, the New Orleans Museum of Art will present The Baroque World of Fernando Botero, the first major U.S retrospective of the artist's work in more than 30 years. Recognized as one of the most well-known and commercially successful artists to emerge from Latin America, the Colombia native now has his work exhibited and collected by major museums around the world, including the New Orleans Museum of Art. The 100 paintings, drawings, and sculptures in this exhibition span the length of Botero's career-from paintings executed in 1959 in Colombia, to sculptures executed as late as 2005. The works were selected by John Sillevis, curator of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, and editor and contributor to the accompanying exhibition catalogue. The exhibition is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays by John Sillevis, guest curator; David Elliot, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo; and Edward Sullivan, Dean of Humanities and Professor of Latin American Art at New York University.
